My students’ ability to think critically and discuss literature exceeds their reading levels. By providing them an accessible and engaging text, I can better move them forward and foster genuine learning. The original text for Dracula presents certain barriers - 19th century language, dense text, etc., but the story is highly engaging and contains many of the literary elements you'd expect to see covered in an English 4 class. This graphic novel adaptation in modern English will allow my students to engage with a literary classic on a deeper level than if they had to focus most of their energy on simple comprehension.
