I currently teach in a Title 1 school that has a high percentage of students that receive either free or reduced price breakfast and/or lunch. That means that most of our students are not able to even afford their own breakfast or lunch. It also means that they usually come to school without the necessary materials that they need, and sadly, not for a lack of trying, my school tends to struggle to support all of our students' needs and wants. Consequently, most of the students in my classroom are not able to access any type of technology, except at school or in my classroom. I currently only have 2 very old desktop computers in my room that are currently running inconsistently. I also have two students who are currently learning English as their second language and need the support of technology. These students especially, will benefit with the use of hands-on electronic resources, as well as, those students in my room with economic, behavioral and academic disabilities.
