My students are crazy about science! They love learning about animals and the different habitats animals live in. Some of our third grade science standards are interdependence, how changes in a habitat affect animals, and life cycles. Having a turtle as a class pet would allow my students to have hands on experience with these science concepts, as well as exposure to a real life animal habitat! we would love a tank, filter, and heat lamp for our new turtle. As a teacher, I am not new to spending my own money in the classroom, but turtle habitats are not exactly in my teacher budget. I would love to be able to give this experience to my students, but need help purchasing the materials!
