My kids are inquisitive. They love learning and exploring and using their hands to teach their head and their heart new concepts and ideas. My first graders love to read and to be read to! They can't get enough of books once they start unlocking the "secrets" of how to read and understand text. The kids that I teach enjoy manipulating word parts to make other words, and unknowingly are helping to teach themselves how words work to make other words. They are smart little cookies and they work very hard. Most of them read every night, not because they have to but because they want to. They want to check books out of our school library, and take books home from our classroom library. They come into school each day with new books from home that they want to share with their friends. Some of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes, but my goal is to give each of my students the gift of reading and equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to do so.
