I teach at a Title 1 school in one of the largest cities/school districts in Connecticut. My 23 students are primarily from poverty/low income households and receive free breakfast & lunch at school. Despite their challenges, they come to school each day with a smile, excited to learn more. They are a sweet, thoughtful bunch who are genuinely friends that help each other and celebrate one anothers' successes. I set high expectations for my students and encourage them to do the same for themselves. They strive to achieve and exceed what I expect. Currently, they are striving to work more cooperatively and independently to start their transition to first grade.
