I’d like to use these materials to create a comfortable reading/writing corner for my students. The rug would be used in one corner of the classroom along with the flexible seating chairs. Students can read in the reading corner during silent reading or as a reward for good behavior. The goal is to create a space in the classroom where students can retrieve to for some downtime. I’d also like to set up a journal writing station where students can express themselves through writing and illustrations. I believe that the more outlets you provide students with, the better they will be in coping with stressful situations. The goal is for students to feel motivated to work so that they can have their downtime in a space that makes them feel at ease. Many of my new students will be students who had to leave their homes due to Hurricane Maria and the political situation in Venezuela. I’d like to create an environment they can enjoy and hopefully recreate at home through reading and writing.
