When my students are sitting dormant, they begin to focus less and less on the lesson or activity. We take many “brain breaks” (like jumping jacks or dancing) throughout the day to keep their bodies moving which keep them engaged in the lesson. Some students are able to sit on exercise balls to keep them from tipping in their chairs. These desk bands will allow every student a tool that is quiet and simple, yet will allow them movement at their desks when they begin to feel antsy. Many peer reviewed articles have been published about the connection between the mind and body and how movement and learning are connected. While it is not feasible to be moving the entire day, these desk bands will let each individual student have their own personal space to move as needed.
