The students are from a low socioeconomic group and I find that they learn and are motivated through the hands on learning and kinesthetic method. They have very little at home and many enjoy school simply as they can relax, feel safe and know that we want to have fun. Violence surrounds many, and trips outside the home are few. Our school is the hub of the community in a small rural town. Poverty surrounds the area but through the dedication of our faculty, children are still driven to have the desire to succeed. The students in all our grades are encouraged to ask who, what, why and how, and I as a teacher enjoy sharing stories with them and listening to their adventures. Many are dreams, many are fisherman's tales, but to them they have a moment when someone listens no matter what. I want to encourage that what is it, why is it, how did it and develop them all through the years to have the grit needed and drive to succeed.
