When given the tools and materials, my students have blown me away with the things they are capable of. When I first introduced STEM into my classroom last year, my students dove into a new world of embracing their inner architect and engineer. They challenged themselves to become problem solvers and critical thinkers. I observed them growing from 1 dimensional/flat thinkers to 3-dimensional thinkers. Creativity should be unleashed in our classrooms and our students should be allowed to explore the world of STEM/STEAM. I am excited to be teaching at a new school this year and want to create a Makers Space/Stem Station for my 1st graders. In order to create a space where students can tinker and explore, I need materials! I am requesting the items below to help bring this to life. I want my students to have a LEGO wall to create and build. The Bricks Classic Baseplates and Dreambuildertoy building blocks will be used for that. The STEM bins (essential kits) will be accessed independently or collaboratively and include activities and challenges for engineering and designing. I am also requesting Super blocks Dominoes, a variety pack of colorful pipe cleaners, and Popsicle sticks to create and build with. These materials will also be incorporated in literacy read-aloud activities and team building challenges. Pattern blocks and base ten models extend beyond math lessons, as they also become constructing and building materials. With access to these materials, they will have the opportunity to stretch their thinking and explore STEM in exciting ways. Learning takes place in a variety of ways for a diverse group of thinkers. By contributing to this project, you are helping to grow our future.
