My goal this year is to implement independent choice reading in my classroom so students can hone their reading skills. Many of them are below grade level. With anything in life, you get better with practice. As the year goes on, I want my students to "market" the books to their peers. They can discuss them, create videos about them, write book reviews, etc. In fact, I would love for multiple students to read the same titles and be able to have discussions about them. Through this project, my students will better be able to find characters like themselves and will ultimately improve as they increase the amount of their reading. As they set goals and reach them, their self confidence will increase. This will undoubtedly help them both in and outside of the classroom.
