TLC is a special program within the school district that serves approximately 50 students in grades K-12 with severe emotional and behavioral challenges. Our students are unable to attend their base schools due to these issues. I currently teach 4th and 5th grades. My teaching strategies may be considered "out-of-the-box" in regard to meeting the needs of all of my students. I allow my students to move throughout the day and one might find them laying the floor, stretching, pacing, kneeling, and/or standing. In regard to student expectations, however, my classroom is very structured. My students are explicitly taught that they choose their actions and accept the consequences, both positive and negative. These strategies and expectations provide a positive learning environment to improve student performance and increase student achievement
