Education has changed so much throughout the years. Standards have become more and more rigorous. Washington state has issued many laws about what full day kindergarten should look like. One of the things they have mentioned is that students should have access to play-based learning. "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." ~Fred Rogers
The sensory table and play kitchen will enhance my students sensory processing and social emotional skills. My students will be able to explore and learn using different senses at the sensory table. The table can be used for literacy activities, math activities, science lessons, and free play. The play kitchen will be an amazing center for my students to practice social skills, problem-solving skills, and more.
These additions to my classroom will help my kindergartners to experience a play-based classroom. They will get to explore new sensory experiences and enhance their social-emotional and problem-solving skills.
