Every year my students struggle with seeing the small life around us. I am asking for microscopes. I would love to provide the opportunity to my students to practice being scientists. I envision them seeing protists wiggling around for the first time and doing guided research to identify the living organisms swimming on the microscope slides in front of their eyes. My students should learn to observe, make inferences, and identify the various life around them and actually be a scientist. In following NGSS guidelines, I hope to help my students learn about various levels of organization that allow organisms to live and grow and function. This will be a platform from which we launch into interactions and discuss ecological and evolutionary implications. I am excited for these experiences with hands-on learning and the variety of applications that can be built upon this experience they will have in class.
