My math classroom is an active, collaborative space where students learn by doing. Using Building Thinking Classrooms and our 3-Pass Model, students move between vertical whiteboards, small-group instruction, independent practice, intervention, and assessment corrections as they build understanding. I often describe our classroom as a “math weight room.” Students get lots of reps, receive feedback, learn from mistakes, and gradually take on more challenging mathematical thinking. My goal is for students to take risks, ask for help, collaborate, and take ownership of their learning. With large classes, organization and independence are essential. Systems that make materials easy to access and transitions efficient allow us to spend more time focused on what matters most—learning mathematics.
