Dyslexic students have intelligent, creative minds that are hungry for knowledge. My students are learning strategies to improve their independent decoding and word recognition skills. As they work through the dyslexia program, the decodable readers funded by this project will bridge the gap between their current reading abilities and their desire to read age-appropriate chapter books, like their peers. Donations to this project will help place high-interest, decodable chapter books in the hands of eager readers. These books will be enjoyed by my students, and foster a love for reading. Many of my students have never been successful in independently reading a chapter book. This project would change that for my students, build their confidence as readers, and allow them to experience the joy of getting lost in a great book.
