When teaching about ancient history, a challenge that occurs is making the topic relevant and interesting to students. Many students have a hard time relating to the static pictures in their text books or even the idea of where the places are in the world. In order to make the topics more engaging, I often try to bring the history to the students. For many of our units, we go on virtual field trips. These field trips are led by me and allow the students to "walk" around famous ruins all around the world. The students can explore artifacts and also ask questions and create educated guesses about how and why the ancient people did what they did. The iPads that I would like to incorporate to my classroom will allow the student to be able to explore the world from their desks. Using the iPads will let the students be more active participants when we take our virtual field trips. By donating to this project you will be opening up the world to my students. You will be encouraging the students to take charge of their education and to experience the world outside of our small community.
