Problem Solving and Logic are skills used every day in life. Students are now being encouraged to explore computational thinking and logic puzzles as part of the daily curriculum. This can lead to coding and other engineering activities as they get older. I am in a pilot program that uses computer games to teach these skills but would love to expand centers in my room to include hands-on activities. I chose games and activity boxes like Mastermind, Guess Who, Build a Laser Maze, Code and Go Robot Mouse (through a maze) STEM activity, Building Brick STEM Challenge kit, Kanoodle, Children’s Chess (with directions each piece can move painted on each piece), Learn to Code file folder game set and more. These activities will teach students how to think outside the box and to try again when their first solution does not work. I think it’s so important for children to learn creative problem solving and perseverance. My classroom integrates students of all intellectual abilities (some on the spectrum, some with Down Syndrome, others with low IQ) and over 40% of my school is low income. These materials will expose so many of my students to learning experiences and hands-on logic games they would not otherwise have access to. Thank you for supporting my classroom and my amazing students!
