I teach bilingual 2nd grade in a low socioeconomic school district. Our school serves 791 students 81% are economically disadvantaged and are eligible for free lunch. My students are Hispanic and are English Language Learners in a Dual Language Learners. With parents struggling to put food on the table, unfortunately education is often not a priority, and school supplies are not purchased. My students face a wide range of obstacles which impact their learning. They generally come from loving, hardworking families, but unfortunately receive little or no academic support at home. Despite their obstacles, these children come to school each day eager to learn. I have a fun loving, energetic group of students, and I am very lucky to be their teacher.
