We are requesting activity tables to foster a collaborative environment and to promote sharing and communication. Tables will allow students to take charge of their learning and collaborate. In my classroom, students are constantly working in groups. Working in groups tends to allow to my students to learn through discussion, clarification of ideas, and evaluation of other’s ideas. Tables will allow my students to sit within close proximity to work together in small groups. In my classroom, I am also trying to teach appropriate social skills and tables will promote this type of group interaction. Using tables in the classroom is a great way to foster a collaborative environment, promote sharing, and enhance communication skills. Tables also allow for fewer distractions. The problem is, children can store any number of objects there, making it easy for them to look down and become distracted. With tables, everything is out in the open, so students are less likely to hide playthings.
