Bullying continues to be a problem in schools. Pairing literacy with characters we can empathize with, will help us become leaders within our schools. The book Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a story about a boy who is avoided, talked about, even feared by many of his peers because of a birth defect that has left his face looking far from average. By reading this book with a group of students from my school, I hope to talk about empathy and how we as students and teachers can make a difference not only in our schools but in our world.
