My students are beautiful children who desperately want to excel in school and in life. 82% of my school is low income, 17.2% are English Language Learners and 51% are below grade level in reading. The other day the school had the opportunity to celebrate the end of the year. Activities included bounce houses, field games, face painting, cotton candy, arts and crafts and bingo for books. Students flocked to play bingo for books, excited to walk away with a book they could call their own. The chance to take a book home, one they could read independently or read to a family member, was a huge hit. The look on their faces inspired me to ask you for your help.
