The cookware items will go a long way toward providing valuable life skills to my students. I have 5 students with disabilities in my class. I try to cook twice a week with my students to teach them a variety of life skills. We have made items as simple as mac and cheese from a box to dishes as complex as an apple pie. These cooking lesson provide so many opportunities for my students with special needs to thrive. They are working on using measuring utensils, mixing, microwaving, as well as oven and stove safety. In one cooking lesson my students will go down the street to shop for groceries, work on following a recipe with pictures, measuring items, and cleaning up before and after the lesson. So far two of my students have moved from cutting an apple with hand over hand assistance to being able to cut the apple on their own! This may seem like a small accomplishment, but for me and my students it was huge!
