Our school is in a diverse suburban setting; students come from different economic, social and racial backgrounds, they are hard workers and eager to learn. 49% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, with approx 50% that English is their second language. Many have never traveled further than 50 miles from home. My AP Environmental Science students begin the school year with little to no knowledge of our local community environmental issues, let alone what is happening on the other side of the United States or the World. It is exciting to observe students as they spend the year learning about the environment and become more aware of their surroundings from a science perspective.
