Currently we have over 1,220 students in our middle school. More than half qualify for free/reduced lunch. Last year, when I became the school's Media Specialist, I realized that less than half of students had daily access to the internet. I was shocked; even with their devices, many did not have a data plan and or were shut off. Unfortunately, our library does not have electronic devices for students to use. My goal is to provide daily access to electronic resources: digital citizenship lessons, eBooks, audio books, databases, internet and popular apps (while in the library). The students deserve to have the accessibility to the technology that most of us use on a daily basis.
