Elevating student awareness of global and national issues is increasingly important as the countries of the world become more interdependent. The New York Times Upfront magazine provides for all my students rich content and diverse learning resources that engage them and help them become more knowledgeable and informed. Consuming domestic and international news with a critical eye is vital to building a generation who will enhance democracy and defeat intolerance. All students have a voice that must be heard, and Upfront magazine allows us to conduct lively and stimulating classroom conversations where students strive for success, advancement, and self-empowerment. As an educator, it is my priority that students are armed with tools necessary to distinguish fact, fiction, and plain opinion.
