My students are in an autism specific class in a public school in a large city in our state. This class is designed to specifically meet their needs in dealing with their deficits from autism, because of this there is a maximum of eight students in this class. Autism is a spectrum and they are all affected differently by their disability, but the one thing they have in common is how technology grabs their attention and keeps them engaged. Before having an interactive SMART Board in my class it was a challenge finding materials to help them understand concepts while keeping them engaged. Now, they are generalizing common social skills such as turn taking. This software will allow them to learn broader and deeper academic concepts in language arts, math and science while reinforcing their social skills with each other and their general ed peers. Because this material is on the SMART Board they think its just a game and don't resist learning in this way.
