My students are a part of my family. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of their control, many of my students deal with hardships and issues outside of school. I try to make my classroom a place where students feel welcomed, safe and are excited to come and learn. First grade is the year students are expected to make significant progress in foundational skills for reading and math. The best way to accomplish that is by having students complete hands-on, engaging lessons as much as possible. In first grade students have great imaginations and learn best with manipulatives and concrete situations. Within my daily ELA and math lessons, I try to incorporate interactive activities, including STEAM projects. The problem? As a new teacher, my classroom does not have many of the supplies for hands on learning. I hope to accumulate the resources to provide my students with the best lessons possible.
