All of my students are hearing-impaired( which means that they wear hearing aids or cochlear implants) or have been identified as being autistic. When they arrive at our public school, most of them have a very minimal vocabulary and communicate by pointing or gesturing. This means that I have to modify everything that I use with them. My students require activities that are really exciting in order to keep them interested.
