Our students come from diverse backgrounds. 48% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Most families support their students as readers, and rely on classroom/school/public libraries to provide studies with the number of complex texts to build reading endurance throughout their educational careers. Our closest public library is 13 walking miles away from the school campus; while efforts have been made to update our school library, it has recently been renovated to make room for other activity centers, which has reduced the number of books the library can hold, and limits the time students have access for book check-out. As a result, my students have a great need for a classroom library where they have constant access to high quality literature.
