Every child asks me if I have any graphic novels in my classroom library every year. I have tried to infuse more books, but I only have 2 or three. Students read a self-selected novel daily for twenty minutes, plus they are expected to read nightly. Many of our families have limited funds to buy books and are unable to get to the public library weekly. These books would be read in school and borrowed by the students to complete their nightly reading. Students will increase their vocabulary with an increased exposure to various texts. I hope to see an increase in an enjoyment of reading as well as performance on state reading assessments.
