The Algebra 2 curriculum requires the use of a graphing calculator in order to master many of the state standards. Also, our goal and vision in the mathematics department is to make essential connections to the real world application of mathematics. A class set of graphing calculators would mean the world to all of my students. Currently, I do not have enough for my students in one class to use. Up until this point students have had to share calculators because my classroom set is incomplete and it is not within the school's budget to order more. There are many advantages to students having their own graphing calculators to use in the classroom and take assessments. It allows students to use a graphing calculator at any time to complete projects and assignments, and even explore math topics on their own instead of waiting to take turns if they are forced to share a calculator with other classmates. Graphing calculators last a long time, so hundreds of students, for years to come, will reap the benefits of this grant.
