With the increased demands in the classroom, we have also seen increased levels of anxiety, stress, dysregulation, in students as young as kindergarten. Yoga and mindfulness in the classroom is essential to teach students how to be present and how to regulate their feelings and emotions, which is a lifelong skill. When children practice yoga, they build self-esteem, concentration is enhanced and it encourages positive interactions with their peers. The benefits are unlimited. We will be using books and CDs to help teach the importance of yoga. The mats, blocks and straps will help practice poses in the classroom. The Think Fun Yoga Spinner Yoga Game will be a way my students can practice yoga. I also envision them being able to use it when they need a moment to calm their minds throughout the day. The Woodstock Trio Zenergy Chime is an effective tool in teaching Mindfulness in an activity called Chime Time, where students have to practice mindfully listening for when they can no longer hear it. Also, the three toned chime provides a calm, more recognizable sound to gain students attention than the one toned chime. Please consider helping me reach my goal and in turn, bring peace and happiness to our future.
