Playtime in Kindergarten is essential! Countless wonderful learning opportunities arise when we give our children open ended building toys and just let them create. Problem solving, communication and engaging academic lessons can be facilitated by a rich environment that encourages creative play. The toys in my classroom are almost exclusively exciting garage sale and Goodwill finds and they have been well used! Play and exploration facilitates children to be engaged and provides the freedom to pursue creative ideas. Play gets to be spontaneous and intrinsically motivated with exciting results. Children get to problem solve and make their own decisions. It is not scripted and it is the most meaningful work of our youth. Meaningful play is facilitated by quality constructive materials. Wooden blocks, Keva engineering planks and connectors, magnetic tiles and ramps, Playstix, K'Nex and Gears are all toys that lend themselves to open ended creativity. Unfortunately by the time I order construction paper, paint, pencils, markers and crayons my school budget does not allow for such purchases. Thank you so much for considering helping my students learn through enriched play!
