Have you heard how children are required to type their entire assessment responses in third grade? So when are we teaching our kids how to type? I remember learning the keyboard keys in Kindergarten! I have incredibly talented and inquisitive first graders that would absolutely love an iPad for our classroom. "Technology is just a tool; In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important – Bill Gates". My little smarty-pants would thrive with iPads by listening to stories, practicing critical thinking using Code, handwriting skills, engage in digital games, publish digital formal writings, and engage in digital portfolios and research projects. I have so many exciting ways to utilize technology for more than simply a device to play a game on. My ultimate goal is to have our children learn the skills to exceed. My first graders learn the home keys which gets them more comfortable with the keyboard and, ultimately, the 'typing' portion is not an obstacle when testing in third grade. I am so excited to get our children to the next level of 21st century tech-thinking.
