Sixth grade is such an awkward year! It is the time of pre-adolescence, where students either, embrace the idea of learning or start to turn away from school and the learning process. The day we passed the LCD projector onto the next teacher, my class learned that being equitable hurts at times. A response, I would never have expected from sixth graders. My twenty-eight, sixth grade students come from all lifestyles. They differ in their cultural, religious, socio-economic backgrounds. Both their learning styles and education abilities vary widely. For my students with special needs this will more than likely be the last time they are in a regular education classroom, participating with their peers in a safe, friendly environment. It is my goal that I challenge them, while instilling a love of learning as they prepare for middle school and beyond. Many of my students continue to meet our school wide academic goals with little to no help or support at home with homework.
