My students come to art once a week, for a one hour class period. During that time our focus is varied: art history, note taking, dissemination of materials, creating art, clean-up and reflection!! Before you know it, the students are dismissed and the next group arrives. It can be a pretty fast-paced environment, where a lot is going on in a short amount of time. For some groups, the additional challenge of being part of a double class is a reality. In this scenario, students have to squeeze into a space with their bulky, traditional chairs or sometimes choose to create art while standing so they can have more room. Focusing on our artwork can sometimes be a challenge when there is not much room for everyone to fit comfortably around a table, especially for students who have attention deficit issues, where they may be part of a group of 40 or more students. Due to this situation, last June, I used some savings and purchased some inexpensive plastic stools in order to replace the cumbersome, traditional chairs I had on hand. My hope was to create a calmer, more spacious, creative space for the new school year. Unfortunately, within two weeks of the start of school these stools have been breaking down at a rate of 1-2 per week. At this rate, I will have to resort back to my large, bulky classroom chairs by Thanksgiving! Purchasing wobble chairs as a seating option would be ideal, in that they'd provide my kids a comfortable, reliable, stable, and flexible replacement to my flimsy stools. This way, my art students could have more room to create art and focus on lessons as well as release energy at the same time.
