Journals are an excellent way for my students to practice their English literacy skills. They can write responses to what they have read in a story. They can express their opinions and ideas. Their writing is a way for me as their teacher to monitor their progress. These journals provide a way for my students to express their thoughts and feelings in a creative way. They can feel cautious when in their classroom with their peers who don’t have the challenges of learning English. They can feel safe to share their ideas without feeling self-conscious. Writing is a critical skill that will encompass all the language skills they need for academic success.
