My active students will use flexible seating to begin to make decisions about their own learning. They will be empowered to select seats that best support their learning needs. Since all of our bodies and brains work differently, we need a variety of seating options to choose from. Some of us like to sit, stand or lay down on the floor to work. Many of us like to sit, but our regular classroom chairs do not allow us a chance to move in a way that helps us focus. Research has proven that movement is beneficial to learning in the classroom and that simply replacing a traditional classroom chair with flexible options can help us to be our very best. I do incorporate movement throughout my classroom during the day. We read around the room, sit on the rug for reading and writing lessons, and we use brain breaks to give our brains a rest and get some of the wiggles out. We need some wobble chairs and balance balls to give our bodies a chance to move around while we work. Will you help us to strengthen our brains and our bodies in our classroom?
