Having a fully engaged classroom creates a sense community and encourages active learning. Research states that alternative seating in the classroom helps all students reach academic success while keeping their bodies regulated. Flexible seating and flexible-space student lap desks will help the students stay focused and it also allows them to get their wiggles out. An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student. Providing flexible seating options to my kinder students is just one component of our flexible learning environment. The physical component of flexible learning includes flexible seating and flexible-space student lap desks. Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this helps keep young minds more alert and focused. An environment in which students feel safe to move, choose the best tools for their needs, and accept individual choices, promotes a supportive culture of learning. A wide variety of choices is critical to establish balance and acceptance for each learner's needs. Outside of our classroom there is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices it should be the same inside our classrooms.
