"This is the most enthusiastic our daughter has ever been about reading!! Thank you! We are going to order a couple of books this weekend." Here lies the challenge in my 6th Grade classroom. I simply do not have enough exciting/engaging books for my students in my classroom library. I need popular books that spark empathy in my readers. I teach 6th grade students in a culturally diverse community. Some families have rich libraries in their homes, and some have no books at all. My students are craving new books. Many are gifted, voracious readers who like to challenge their classmates to "partner read" and/or partake in "book clubs". Having a wide variety of new titles will inspire reluctant readers, and spark an interest in EVERY adolescent reader in my class. My 6th Grade Core class becomes a "family", and my goal is to ensure that every child discovers the joy that reading great books can bring to one's life.
