My class is solely a 4th grade ESL classroom. Currently I have 33 students that seem eager to learn and have hope in their eyes. They enjoy our classroom and working together on special activities in Science and Reading. Reading and Math are very difficult for my language learners and they are struggling to even reach grade level. I have various Hispanic cultures, Arabic, Bengali, African and Chinese students. Seven of my students are brand new to the United States and I need to work with them on learning letters and sounds. My other students are working currently at a second grade level with most students reading on a level J-K. My goal is to work with them and push them to practice reading and develop skills and a genuine love for reading. Just from the beginning of the year, I have noticed that my students are developing an excitement for reading. My school is located in the Bronx and is struggling with students that are not on grade level. I am hopeful for all.
