In my 6th grade classroom, I use "stations" to help students learn. In stations, "each teacher works with a small group of children who rotate among various stations to complete the different tasks related to the same instructional content/objective. Station Teaching is an efficient use of time that allows all students to experience multiple related instructional activities" (Curry School of Education). Many of my students struggle with reading, are self conscious about their abilities, and just generally retain more when material is read to them. 6th graders also struggle with focusing on the task at hand, the noise canceling headphones will help drone out any classroom noise that might distract them from the task. I look forward to offering my students a new station this school year where they can listen to the reading assignment and better retain what they have read. Not to mention- kids love TECHNOLOGY!
