This project is meant to showcase the artistic side of learning. We have a group of students that, although economically disadvantaged, have a tremendous amount of talent that needs to be shown and displayed in the most pristine and dignified way. With these newly furnished dance items the dancers would be able to present themselves as a collective unit while being able to use their math knowledge to evaluate and calculate positions and space. Being able to witness their determination is a blessing and we would like to see it grow with the necessary gear to enhance the confidence needed. Day in and day out I am able to see the struggles that students have when they want to participate in anything and being fearful of the fact that the funds are not available for them to pursue those dreams currently. That is where myself and our other sponsor comes in. We volunteer our time three days a week to help those minds and bodies soar. They are some of the most graceful and appreciative students that I have come across. They truly take pride in what they do and we would love for them to see themselves and be seen as a troop worthy of the accolades they have acquired. We see some of our most socially apprehensive students grow dramatically through participating in our program. Not only are we dancing but we are also able to incorporate mathematical real life situations in our routines. We are able to reach even the youngest of our groups (ages 6-12) with math subjects that include: 1. Repeated addition/multiplication (in dance counts) 2. Area and perimeter (through blocking) 3.Geometry (formation of various polygons) 4.Balancing a simple budget (fundraising efforts vs. expenses).
