In our school, some of our students are homeless and most receive free or reduced lunch. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some have grown up in the same neighborhoods as their grandparents, while many may be first generation immigrants to our country. Most students have never been read to in their house and reading is not the priority; they cannot even tell you what is their favorite book. Many of my students don't enjoy reading so they will fake read or simply state that the book is boring so they do not want to read it anymore.
