Four years ago, I taught second grade and I had the pleasure of teaching many of these students. I also collaborated very closely with the other second grade teachers and had the opportunity to work with their students. The following year, I looped with my students and taught them again in third grade. Two years later, I find myself teaching fifth grade with the same group of kids. We are a very close knit "family". I have also created strong bonds with their families. Last year was the first year our 5th graders went to Science Camp. Although we are all very excited about spending a whole week together at Walden West, I am very concerned about the cost. Our community is mainly low income and this cost puts a significant pressure on the ability to provide this opportunity for their child. In some cases, some students will not be able to participate if we are unable to raise the funds.
