Students spend 8 hours a day at school. They work hard learning new academic, social, and behavioral content. Being expected to sit in a desk all day, without wiggle room, can be demanding and at times an impossible task. When students are allowed to move, it gets their juices flowing. Especially brain flow! Students need seating that is flexible, allows them to move, and allows for more age-appropriate seating expectations. The flexible seating furniture and storage will allow for students to change their seating as needed to help them continue diligent work throughout their long work day. It also provides safe-space seating for students who need to calm themselves down while dealing with the often stressful demands of learning. Each of the pieces of furniture I am requesting provide a variety of seating choices for students. The wobble stools allow students to move as they listen to instruction, or during collaborative work, and helps them focus more intently. The bungee chair and wobble cushions also allow students the freedom to move while working. The bench seat and bean bags provide an alternative seating choice and also allow the room to become a collaborative work space where students may move their seats and share ideas with their peers. The hammock-swing provides a moving seating choice and also a safe space for students to sit, breath, relax, and deal with any anxiety or stress that may arise during the day. It becomes a "safe space" for students who need it.
