Our student body is comprised of 1,321 students: 50% Black/African American, 40% White, 2% Hispanic/Latino, 7% Two or More Races and 1% Asian. The school serves 59 % of students from low-income residents (Illinois Report Card). At SSHS, our focus is to increase and improve students reading and writing by teaching them strategic skills through close reading, annotation, think aloud and read aloud. Students learn best when they see first hand from experts. Currently, I use word and Adobe to show the annotation process, but the students struggle with the concept, especially when they work with paper and pen. I can only show my thinking with paper and pen to few students at a time in small group and not to the whole class. With an interactive document camera, I will be able to use paper and pen to show students how expert students revise, edit and work on composing essays and annotate during reading. I want to advance my students' reading comprehension and writing skill
