Graphic novels promote oral and visual literacy, as well as a love for reading. A good collection of graphic novels appeals to young people who might otherwise be reluctant to explore the library. Likewise, novels in verse appeal to reluctant readers because they use so much vivid imagery. Many reluctant readers are visual learners. Poetry expresses meaning through the graphic placement of words on the page. I'm confident adding these titles to our classroom library will peak curiousity, stir enthusiasm, and raise confidence levels of so many of my students! I look forward to hearing them share how these stories have impacted them and can't wait to see that spark in their eyes as they relay the roller coaster of emotions, questions, and excitement the characters in these novels will undoubtably provide.
