Many of my students come from poverty. In my district, we are considered "low income". This means that many of my students cannot afford school supplies. In addition, they receive free breakfast and lunches, because many do not the opportunity to eat enough at home. I enjoy throwing parties, holiday gatherings, and cultural feasts whenever possible. The children enjoy all types of foods, as well as learning about each other's cultures. On a daily basis we study Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, and Fluency. In my classroom I teach students of all different learning styles and disabilities, yearly. I ensure that all children have supplies they need, whether it is provided by the district, the parents, or myself. I never scold a child for not having a pencil, because that pencil is a metaphor for their life and living situation. They do not have much, so I have to help them where I can.
