Webster defines exceptional as unusually good and outstanding and that is exactly what my students are. I recently set up a calm down area for my students to use when they need a sensory break and they love the freedom that comes with it. They are allowed to access it without teacher approval or by interrupting the class. This gives them independence and helps them to self regulate. Due to my students many sensory specific needs, the Light Table and accessories will be invaluable for their daily needs. This is the first step towards filling the calm down corner with the items that would help them be the most successful and help them feel that they have a way to express themselves.
